Skinny Spider and Mice

I saw this really long and skinny spider hiding out in the doorway yesterday.  Anyone know what it is?  I Googled it, but didn't have any luck.  It was 2 inches in length.  It really freaked me out.  I DO NOT like spiders of any type.  The fact that this one was so skinny, it could probably easily slip inside the door crack or underneath the door ~ that freaked me out, too.  But I'm sure one of the cats would happily eat it if they caught it.  Crazy cats.  Jack is so picky about the flavor of cat food that he eats, but he'll happily eat a bug without hesitation.  They should make bug flavored cat food...

Speaking of the cats, last Thursday night we were going to sleep, we were actually in bed, and it was seconds before I turned out the light on the nightstand.  Randy had already fallen asleep.  And then Shadow jumped up in the middle of the bed with a live mouse in her mouth!

In the springtime mice somehow always get into our old house.  The 2 cats have a great time hunting and catching them.  And now Shadow likes to bring them to us!

I was so shocked and concerned that if we startled Shadow she'd drop the mouse in the bed, all I could do was sit perfectly still and repeatedly bump Randy's arm to wake him.  The only words I could get out were "The cat has a mouse! A live mouse! In bed!"

Luckily Shadow turned and took the mouse down to the kitchen, where Randy dealt with it.  Both cats continued to look for other mice all night that night.

Oh my!!!! I have no idea what kind of spider it is...when we lived in Texas they had spiders that big and they were called cotton spiders but they were more brown in color...One was crawling up my leg and I about had a heart attack..

Aren't cats too cute to bring us their finds!! But in bed it must have been very hard to contain yourself...I would have been freaking out..

I hope you got some sleep after all that...

Have a great day..Lisa

I hate spiders too. I almost didn't read this post. ;)
The only place I've seen those sorts of spider, thank goodness, is outdoors.
Our cats are fussy about which bugs they eat, haha.
I've heard of cats bringing dead mice to their owners, but I hope mine never bring a live one to me. Our retirement house will have plenty of them, too.
Have a good weekend!

Oh my goodness! Never a dull moment! How funny about the mouse! Glad it wasn't our Zoey bringing it to us! And that spider! I can just see JJ freaking out! We are camping next week. I hope we don't meet any spiders like that one!

No clue what it is, but, it appears to have some nasty pinchers!

I never paid mind to spiders until a brown recluse put me in the emergency room twice! blah! Now, I'm a little freakish about them.

The only time we get mice in the house is when snakes are near and they come in to get away from them. So far, the snakes haven't come in!

That is a amazing spider, I have never seen one like that before. I wonder what he or she is. I hate that when animals bring in live animals. Our cat brought in a very mad and very alive gopher one day. I think though, having a mouse in bed is the worst. At least you didn't scream and jump out of bed like I might have done.

Lynn, I don't know what kind of spider it is. When I lived in North Carolina, I would find beautiful black and yellow orb garden spiders. I don't mind spiders but other bugs definitely freak me out, like cockroaches and ticks. Blech! Good girl, Shadow, for catching that mouse! But whoa for hopping in the middle of the bed with it! Thank goodness you were still awake; right?

Hehe I shouldn't laugh as I would have been mildly freaking out big time. :) I wish our two cats would catch that mouse that has been plaguing us.

Cats are so silly!

Your little spider appears to be from the family of orb weaving spiders. Totally harmless to humans and has no interest in sneaking indoors. Great for catching flies and mosquitoes!
