Mystery of the Egg ~ Lineup

I have created a lineup of who could have laid the mysterious second egg.  These are the suspects.  All these pullets are approximately 4 months old.  I have not included the two Americana hens, as their eggs would not be brown, nor have I included Little Danni or Chloe, who have a solid alibi.

So, here they are.  All suspects are given a number for identification.  If they have a name, it will also be provided.

First up, #1, Betty

Hen #2

Hen #3

Hen #4

Hen #5, Zoner

Hens # 6 and 7 (6 is on the left, 7 on the right)

Hen #8

There you have it, all the suspects.

Vote now for who you think is the owner of the Second Egg!
Also, please recommend names for the hens without names- I am just awful with names!

I will find out who laid that second egg, and will let you know when I do!

Stay tuned for interviews of the other chickens who were in the coop during the incident...

Well... I'm up for the challenge.
I love chickens..
I'm giving two guesses cause I can't make up my mind. Hen #3 which I am naming 'bashful' because she looks shy and may have a secret...like laying an egg.. But then I like #8 cause it looks like she is saying 'who, me?!!" No name for this handsome speciman in the coop... I'll be checking back for the answer to the mystery. oh did I mention I love chickens..

Today the modern hybrid will start to lay at 18 weeks old so this will probably be the earliest for a chicken.

All depends on the breed. So, the answer to the question is, any time between 18-26 weeks old.

So I am guessing either Betty, or one of the two white ones (in the photo together).

They have larger combs and the combs are redder suggesting puberty.

Maybe hen 6 or 7. Their combs look redder than the other hens. And don't ask me for names. That is why almost all my chickens are named Bob. :D

Maybe you could start naming the chickens after your ancesters-Cynthia, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, or maybe even Christian!! LOL! My sister in law names their pets after members of their family!!

My vote goes to hen #8. Names, hmmmm, mine are named after friends, other than Stew Pot the rooster ( he got that name when he thought he was tough and went after me!) What he wasn't expecting was me taking off after him! Who is laughing now!!! ha ha

In my flock of ten "ladies" my smallest gal "Henny Penny" lays the largest eggs. Henny is a Buff, now Gladys my Barred Rock lays the smallest eggs. Go figure. My girl's are Pip and Pearl, Gladys, Georgia, Willa, Lucille, and Iris, Charlotte, Beatrix and last but certainly not least Henny Penny.

Hi, this Ozarks farm chick just popped over from Down on the Farm. I'm votin' for Miss Zoner. She has a sly guilty look about her. Book her Dano!!! Heeeheeehee!!! What fun.

From the hills and hollers or the Missouri Ponderosa, ya'll have a wonderfully blessed day!!!

Well, as I mentioned in my last post, the mystery was Zoner, hen #5. I am surprised, I thought it would be #6 or #7, they both are large hens with red combs. Or maybe Betty, #1, she's a big girl.

But, my next thought is maybe more than one hen is starting to lay. I've gotten 3 little eggs 3 days in a row. I know Zoner laid the second day. Maybe someone else laid the other 2 eggs?? Does one hen start laying & lay 3 eggs 3 days in a row? I thought it would be more sporadic to start with.

I've decided to call hens #2, 3 and 4 Charlotte. I used to love that name when I was a child (from Charlotte's Web, I think). I have a hard time telling those hens apart, so for now, I'm trying out the name Charlotte on all them to see if it fits their personality. I also like the name Lucy, so we'll see if it fits one of the hens, too.
