Is it possible to lose weight over Thanksgiving?

I recently returned from yet another trip.  I didn't think I ate terribly during the trip; however, the scale, my enemy, tells me I gained 2 pounds.  What's up with that?  I tell you, that ramen was worth it...

And now I'm facing Thanksgiving this week.  Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, in case I forget to say it later!

So, is it possible to actually lose weight this week?  Yes, I celebrate the traditional Thanksgiving, with turkey and stuffing and sweet potatoes and pies and the whole nine yards.  I love Thanksgiving.  What can I do?  I don't think it's possible to not gain weight this week.  So I'll just have to work harder next week to lose it, right?

But I'd like to attempt to lose 2 pounds this week.  I don't like to procrastinate.  I want to get started right now on this weight loss thing.  I have been working on losing about 15 pounds forever, for at least a year, maybe longer.  I lose maybe 5 or ten pounds, but then I gain it all back.  I go on crazy diets, remember my fruit and veggie diet?  And then I eventually quit the diet and eat too many desserts.  I love desserts.  I love to bake, I love to eat them.  It's my downfall.

I even am doing Insanity, a cardio weight loss program.  I love it!  I'm not losing weight, but I am getting in better shape, better condition, if I can stick to it.  But when I do Insanity, I need to eat more for energy, if I don't eat I get very tired.  When I first started Insanity I thought it's ok to eat anything, I'm working out like crazy.  But a month later I found that's not true, I still need to watch my diet.  I actually gained weight while doing Insanity.  So now I'm doing Insanity and attempting to eat healthy.  It's tough.

Those KitKats are always calling to me.  Did you know they have over 200 flavors of KitKats in Japan?  My goal is to try them all...  Orange/citrus is my favorite, with hotcakes coming in second.

See?  There's my problem, I love sweets!  I was raised with Tastykakes (sorry Hostess, I don't love you, goodbye).    I love to bake cupcakes and other desserts, I love to try out new recipes.  And that means I need to eat the desserts, just to taste them, you see.

Do other people out there have this problem?  Should I just stop baking?  Baking makes me happy.  I've slowed down drastically with baking, but Christmas is just around the corner, I see it coming fast.  That means making Christmas cookies...  There's so many kinds, I need to make them all, to see how they turn out...  It cannot be avoided.

Is it possible to lose 2 pounds over Thanksgiving week?  I'll let you know.

The unfortunate thing about Thanksgiving is all the sugar and carbs we eat. If you stuck to just the meat and veggies, you'd be fine. But all the GOOD stuff is the sweet, carb stuff--the sweet potatoes, the stuffing, the pies, pies, pies!

Why try to lose weight at Thanksgiving, anyway? That's what January's for. :-p

My lady has trouble with portions. She has to measure everything out because she thinks a portion is WAAAYYY bigger than it is. Tee hee. Who can have just one cookie? Sigh.

Well, Lynn, my daughter is getting married in April or May, last night it was May and today it is April. Every time I think of taking a bite of something I think wedding and photos. :) I do believe it is possible to loose two pounds over Thanksgiving but then of course it isn't much fun. Just enjoy yourself. A lady left me a comment on my blog when I was talking about loosing weight she said something like this.
" I have dieted and exercised my whole life. I never ate anything that wasn't good for me. I didn't drink or smoke.
I am dying from cancer. I tell people now, eat what you want it doesn't matter."
Ever since she wrote that, I have thought and thought about life.
I hope that doesn't bum you out. Life is short eat cake. :) or in your case cupcakes. Which are lovely I might add.

Sweets are my downfall, big time. They seem to call my name. I too love to bake and well it just goes down hill from there. So you see you are not alone, there is comfort in numbers! I agree with Kim, enjoy the holidays, eat with moderation, get a daily walk in and greet the day with a smile!!!Have a lovely week and Happy Thanksgiving. Greetings, Julie.

MA - I hate to wait! I like to get started on things right away, even dieting.

Kessie - I agree, carbs are my downfall. And sweets, for sure.

IGL - I have a portion control problem, too!

FG - Life is short, we should enjoy it. But you know, I can enjoy it being thin just as well. I'm actually happier with myself when I'm thinner. I am very unhappy being heavier, I just am. My clothes don't fit, I feel bad. Eating sweets really doesn't make me all that happy. Baking makes me happy. I need to watch my portions, for sure. Maybe one cupcake a day, not 3. I'll be just as happy eating a salad with some good spicy vinaigrette dressing as a cupcake, as long as I am not still hungry. But you know, Kim, one thing you said really hit home - I should imagine what I want, picture myself thin, and when I go to pick up that cake, I will know that will not help me to reach that goal. Keeping the goal in mind is very helpful to motivate me. Thank you!

Julie - I will attempt to eat in moderation. I hope!

Good news - I am down 1 pound already and it's only Mon. 1 more to go to reach my goal this week. I've made a goal to lose 2 pounds a week, 10 pounds by Christmas. 2 pounds a week doesn't seem tough. However, I made cupcakes last night - but I only ate 1!

Sugar cookies! See if your scale has an adjustment dial or knob and 'adjust' it a few pound in the proper direction!

I was just talking with our sister Ruth. She also was talking about losing weight. She said last summer she was riding her bike 6 miles a day and doing other work with her horses, and didn't lose a thing! -- Baking is a problem- I love to bake too! I need to lose weight too! I made a pre thanksgiving pumpkin pie for Dave today. ~~ I won't offer you any tomorrow when I see you! LOL!

OFG - I'm sorry about the out of space thing. I went into Picasa and deleted some photos from old blog pages. But if someone now views that blog page, they get an error instead of a photo! And I always edit my new photos so they are real small in size, and I don't post too many photos these days.

LindaG made a comment back on my Out Of Space post to "try Photobucket or Webshots. They are free online albums. You will have to play around figuring out how to link to them, but that will let them host your pictures and not Google /Blogger /Picasa."

I think that's the best idea, but I never got around to working on it. let me know if you do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

hey! i think i might have figured it out. BUT i dunno if this is a long term solution. i signed up The Google Plus which gives you free storage for photos under a certain size...and a limit for others. and it resizes them when you upload so they are automatically under the limit unless you specify otherwise.

however, wow. they asked for a LOT of personal information. they might kick me off b/c i have an online alias (for lots of reasons) and i had to "appeal" for them to accept OhioFarmgirl as my id. they even wanted me a copy of my drivers license! which of course i did not send. wow. anyway.. i'll letcha know how it goes but this is one option. the only reason i chose this was b/c Google said that eventually all its users will be moved to it. *shrugs* so i figured it was coming.

thanks for your help!
