Wine, anyone?

Since the weather here was beautiful this past weekend, we decided to clean out some trash on our property.  It seems in the past people used to dump their trash right on the property, like it was a personal landfill.  We decided we to start the clean up on an area that's not too far away from our house - you cannot see this dumping area from our house, but it is a short walk.

After working on the dump cleanup for 3 days, we had 17 trash bags full.  We will have to continue on the trash pickup when we have time.  We have barely begun the cleanup.

We found hundreds of glass bottles in the "dump"!  Most of them are wine bottles.

And this is just the beginning of the bottle collection.  There's many, many more out there in the woods.  We didn't trash the bottles - we figured we'd save them and see how many we get!

Who ever dumped here must have really liked their wine!

Whoa!! Did they bottle their own wine there? That would be interesting to find out! Maybe there was a vineyard on your property!! Maybe you could come up with some artsy craft with wine bottles?? Or sell them to some artist?? --Never a dull moment there, is there? LOL!

Oh my that is a lot of wine bottles! And you say there is more? Sorry but am laughing right now. Wow!!! I wonder what other 'treasures' you are going to find? Hey, maybe those wine bottles might be worth something! :)

Hi Barb - No, these bottles are marked from a CA winery. Yes, it would have been neat if they came from this property!! No such luck! I wanted to collect all the bottles I could find, them offer them for sale online. I thought maybe someone local would like them. I dont want to pay to ship them to anyone, they are heavy. Does Nick reuse glass to make his glass art?

Cindy - It's ok, we were laughing, too! I hope we get something for all these bottles, that would be nice! If no one wants them, I'll at least recycle them!

Maybe you could build the bottles into a rock wall?

Of course, like you said--maybe try to sell them. I would think someone would want them.

CeeCee - That would be one delicate bottle wall! Ha, if someone tried to climb the wall they may break it! Or worse, may get cut by it!!!

They apparently only liked one brand of wine too! Wow! How funny. I think you've put our ball graveyard to shame. :)

Our local wine and beer making shop sells second hand 1 gallon jugs for a dollar. Nobody would need this many, but a small number are handy for experimental wines or as top-up jugs for a larger container. You might check at your local shop if they'd like a whole bunch of bottles.

ha ha ha ha...This made me laugh - all those bottles - wow.
Can you tell how old the bottles are?
Obviously not that old, I guess, since they've got screw-top lids.
Gosh, you're always finding something fascinating out there, aren't you?! :-)

If those bottles could talk I bet they would have one heck of a story.

I loved seeing all those bottles lined up there in the field. First thought in my mind was...what artsy thing to do with them. I'm sure on the internet you could find some ideas. The fact that they are green is so cool too!

How funny. I was just reading that wine bottles are excellent containers for emergency water storage. But, oh my, then you'd have to wash and sterilize them all! :o

Lee - Yes, they were partial to one brand of wine. I still think your ball graveyard was impressive! I will have to check with my local wine shop, they may want them.

Dog Trot Farm - yes, they did!

Danni - Yes, we are always finding something out here!

John Gray - I agree!!

Linda - I like that they are green, too! They are pretty!

Genny - If it was me, I wouldn't tell! That's just too many bottles to be proud of!

Cattle Call Farm - Yes, I bet they can tell a story. But I don't think this trash is that old, maybe 10 years old.

Robin - It's always something here. Who knows what we'll find next...

Jalynn - I bet there is some artsy thing to do with the bottles, but I just have to find the time!

Linda - I am stunned, too, that there are so many bottles. And so many more out in the woods still!

frugalmom - yes, they would be pretty if they were all cleaned up. But I don't think I'm going to take the time for that, there's just too many!

Leigh - yeah, that's just too much work for me to clean them all! And then I'd have to find a place to store them (other than out in the field where they are now)...

When I told my friend about the gin bottle collection in our woodlot, she told me they were collectible and I should sell them on Ebay! I haven't tried that yet, but maybe there is a market for your bottles!

Razzberry Corner said...

Hi Knatolee - I used to sell a lot on ebay several years ago, so I immediately thought of ebay for these bottles. But I know it will cost a pretty penny to ship these bottles. I think I'm only going to offer them available for pickup. I'm going to try Craigslist first - I've had very postive results with them. let me know if you do sell your gin bottle collection!

I will have to lug the gin bottle collection out of the woods. :) Until recently I had no idea these things were marketable. good luck with Craigslist!
