Sand in the feathers

What is the best thing ever to get rid of cold winter afternoon blues?
A sand bath, of course!!

Our hen Freckles just loves her sand baths.  None of the other chickens have taken to enjoying the dirt like Freckles.

Our ground is so frozen, the ladies are passing on their dust baths.

Awww, Freckles sure looks so happy taking her sand bath. Isn't it funny how they enjoy that? My girlies love the dirt under the trailer. Have to say they get so filthy when they are done. Speaking of chickens, how is Li'l Puff? Figured out what breed yet?

Gail - Our ground is frozen, too! There's snow on the ground everywhere, but this one area behind the coop seems to not have much snow left. And Freckles found this one spot, up close to a tree, where she dug and found some dry, sandy dirt. It's the only place where the ground isn't frozen hard, and when she gets out of the coop, Freckles always runs right there to roll.

Cindy - I think we decided Puff is a Polish mix. I've taken some new pics of him & will be posting them soon - stay tuned!! I still love his puffy head feathers!

Boy that looks familiar. We have some serious dirt bathers over here too. I think they like to see which one can get the dirtiest and dig the biggest hole.

Ah, thanks. We have been busy goofing off. Lee had a lot of time off in December. We had fun but not much happened around the house. Therefore, nothing to write about. Now back to real life. lol
