Since the weather here was beautiful this past weekend, we decided to clean out some trash on our property. It seems in the past people used to dump their trash right on the property, like it was a personal landfill. We decided we to start the clean up on an area that's not too far away from our house - you cannot see this dumping area from our house, but it is a short walk.
After working on the dump cleanup for 3 days, we had 17 trash bags full. We will have to continue on the trash pickup when we have time. We have barely begun the cleanup.
We found hundreds of glass bottles in the "dump"! Most of them are wine bottles.
And this is just the beginning of the bottle collection. There's many, many more out there in the woods. We didn't trash the bottles - we figured we'd save them and see how many we get!
Who ever dumped here must have really liked their wine!
Whoa!! Did they bottle their own wine there? That would be interesting to find out! Maybe there was a vineyard on your property!! Maybe you could come up with some artsy craft with wine bottles?? Or sell them to some artist?? --Never a dull moment there, is there? LOL!

ReplyDeleteHi Barb - No, these bottles are marked from a CA winery. Yes, it would have been neat if they came from this property!! No such luck! I wanted to collect all the bottles I could find, them offer them for sale online. I thought maybe someone local would like them. I dont want to pay to ship them to anyone, they are heavy. Does Nick reuse glass to make his glass art?

They apparently only liked one brand of wine too! Wow! How funny. I think you've put our ball graveyard to shame. :)
ReplyDeleteOur local wine and beer making shop sells second hand 1 gallon jugs for a dollar. Nobody would need this many, but a small number are handy for experimental wines or as top-up jugs for a larger container. You might check at your local shop if they'd like a whole bunch of bottles.
Wow! somebody sure liked their wine! Maybe you could make a bottle tree, whatever you decide good luck!

How funny. I was just reading that wine bottles are excellent containers for emergency water storage. But, oh my, then you'd have to wash and sterilize them all! :o

When I told my friend about the gin bottle collection in our woodlot, she told me they were collectible and I should sell them on Ebay! I haven't tried that yet, but maybe there is a market for your bottles!
ReplyDeleteHi Knatolee - I used to sell a lot on ebay several years ago, so I immediately thought of ebay for these bottles. But I know it will cost a pretty penny to ship these bottles. I think I'm only going to offer them available for pickup. I'm going to try Craigslist first - I've had very postive results with them. let me know if you do sell your gin bottle collection!
