But, all of a sudden, Puff is starting to act like a rooster! uh oh!

Carolyn - I, too, am often drawn to the underdogs. And I know you'll do fine with your shop - have fun!!

Don - I was thinking Puff may be a polish crested mix of some sort. ...I'll go check out your blog further to see your chickens - thanks for the assistance!

Update - In the past week since I posted this blog, Puff has changed so much - suddenly he has gotten a strange-looking comb in front of the puff of feathers on his head, and little wattles. And he now loves to get out with all the other, much bigger chickens, and FIGHT with a vengence with the cockerels! So I'm sadly starting to believe that Puff is a cockerel.Randyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05642165607104546850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6390619032396490344.post-76930645478998996912009-12-13T06:52:24.449-05:002009-12-13T06:52:24.449-05:00I have one that looks exactly like li'l puff! ...I have one that looks exactly like li'l puff! I have polish crested hens hens and a cuckoo maran rooster and the white puffy-headed one I have is a mix between the two. The Amish farmer probably isn't into making sure he has pure-bred chickens only breeding together, so Puff is probably a Polish crested. Small to medium white egg layers. However, if the rooster or hen is a brown or green layer, the eggs she will lay could be interesting!Donhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16831577769797947426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6390619032396490344.post-79461277163050751112009-12-08T17:57:45.198-05:002009-12-08T17:57:45.198-05:00I think she's adorable! I don't know what it is, but I'm always drawn to the underdogs.

BTW, thank you so very much for your kind words of encouragement over at my place. I'm such a novice and it's all a little scary to put myself out there in this way. I still have a lot of work to do to dress up my shop properly. Novice. I hope it gets real long & crazy-looking when she's big - that would be fun! I'd like at least one entertaining chicken!

AJ-OAKS - I was thinking maybe a polish crested something, but like you said, there's so many varieties, and she could be a mix. We will see! The other birds think the bump on her beak is unique, too, and it has been pecked until it was bloody once. We had to take Puff inside into the infirmary until it healed, poor girl! My husband just thinks she's deformed - I told him not to say that!! She could be a beautiful hen one day!!Randyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05642165607104546850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6390619032396490344.post-90420985679966798562009-12-07T12:33:09.718-05:002009-12-07T12:33:09.718-05:00My first guess is L'il Puff is a crested girl....My first guess is L'il Puff is a crested girl. Maybe a Polish? But there are so many differant ones available. I adore her bump on her nose. Very unique. Looking forward to watching her grow up and see what breed she is.
